Thursday, Oct. 26

Hello Friends and Family,

We have spent the last few days working on the addition and subtraction using the strategy of "counting on" and "counting back" using number lines.  Help me to review how to know where to start numbering a number line from, and if I should be counting on or counting back!

As a reminder, we will be going on a Coulee Walk tomorrow.  Please make sure I am dressed appropriately for the weather and have a pocket snack.  Surfaces will likely be fairly icy, but it looks like it will be a nice day!

Some general school reminders:

Families Helping Families

Families Helping Families

As is our tradition at Eric Harvie School, again this year we are calling on your kindness and generosity to help support a family in need at Christmas. This year, we will be supporting 10 families at Colonel Fred J. Scott School who may need a little extra help to make Christmas brighter. While in past years we asked for specific gift donations for individual family members, due to the pandemic, this year will look different.

This year we are asking for monetary donations. These donations will purchase a variety of gift cards (eg. Walmart, Superstore, Safeway) and small stocking stuffers gifted to each member of the 10 families in a stocking. Parent Council has generously offered their support by collecting the money via direct deposit and helping purchase the gifts.

Donations can be made via at

ehsestreasurer@gmail.com (No password required.) and are welcomed on or before

In the spirit of giving this holiday season, all staff at Eric Harvie School would like to thank families in advance for their contributions and making a family’s Christmas a little brighter!! Thank you also to our Parent Council for their support with this peace initiative.

Monday, Nov 23

 Hello Friends and Families,

In writing today we had a "free writing time".  Ask me what I wrote about!  Some kids had the opportunity to share their writing for author's chair.

In Inquiry, we wrote and drew a visual journal page about the Magic Treehouse book we just finished reading as a class.  We had to make sure we included characters and a setting in our work, and show that we understood what the prairie landscape looks like.  Ask me about my favourite part, who the characters were, and where the story takes place (hint: the prairies).

On Friday, Nov 27 we will be going on a Coulee Walk.  It looks like it will be a warmish day, but we will be going unless the weather is extreme, so please make sure I'm prepared and have a snack I can eat outside.

Thanks for reading!

Wednesday Nov.18

 Hello Families!

A friendly reminder to check out the virtual book fair and the lost and found that is placed outside very Friday.

We read the story The Proudest Blue: A Story of Hijab and Family by Ibtihaj Muhammad today.  Ask me about the accomplishments of the Ibtihaj. Ask me about the new letter sounds we learned today. In math, we played Making 10 Connect 4.

Tomorrow is a half day!

 Happy Tuesday!

Please remember to sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences this Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. We are so looking forward to seeing you (virtually) and sharing all your child's accomplishments.

We are continuing to build our stamina in reading and writing.  Today, we created an anchor chart for Working on Writing.  Ask me about my jobs during writing time and what I wrote about today.

We wrote equations using ten frames in math and finished Buffalo Before Breakfast, ask me how it ended.

Thanks of reading!
