Tuesday December 15

 Hello Families!

Today we read the story The Gift of the Inuksuk by Mike Ulmer and continued to discuss the life and culture of those living in an Arctic community.  We used the letters in the word "Christmas" to make as many words as possible.  Ask me about the words I was able to make using those letters and how I used "word families" to help.  We also finished reading our chapter book Polar Bears Past Bedtime. Ask me how the story ended.

Reminders:

This Thursday, December 17th is Pajama Day!  It is a full day of school.

There is no school on Friday, December 18th.

If your child has not yet logged into their Google Classroom (Mountain View or Wild Rose) please be sure that they do so ASAP as they will need them for online learning starting on January 5.

 Hello Families!

We hope that you all had a safe and relaxing weekend!

Today we worked on our reading and writing stamina.  We also learned about Kwanzaa, ask about this celebration.  In math, we played a new math game.  Please the pictures below.  In inquiry, we have been learning about life in the Arctic.  Ask me what I know.

Thursday Dec. 10

Hello Families!

We really enjoyed seeing all the festive hats today!  We had a busy day with Roots of Empathy and a presentation about Food Chains with Sarah Parker from Glenbow Ranch.  Ask me about what I learned about the living things in Tuscany.

Thank you for reading!

Wednesday, Dec. 8

 Hello Friends and Family,

We had a special treat today and go to visit virtually with our elder Saa Ko Ko Too, who told us about what winter means to him and Blackfoot peoples, and he told us a winter story about how the Bear lost his tail.  Ask me if I can retell the story!

Tomorrow is Festive Hat Day - wear a festive hat, and if you don't have one, you can wear whatever you like on your head!

Thanks for reading!

Tuesday Dec. 8

 Hello Families!

We started the day by reading the book A Promise is a Promise by Robert Munsch & Michael Kusugak and were able to make connections to living in an Arctic community.  (Fun Fact: You can go to the Robert Munsch website to listen to him read his stories.) After discussing "what good writing looks like," we wrote about our favourite things to do in winter.  We have been working on making a good plan before we start writing, to help develop our ideas.  In math, we continued to practice our strategies to make estimations.  We really enjoyed checking to see how close our estimations were to the actual number of items. Ask me how I improved my estimation skills.

Spirit Day Reminders

December 10th -  Crazy Hat day!

December 17th – Pajama day!

Monday, Dec. 7

 Hello Friends and Family,

Today we have been working hard on our estimation and counting skills.  Ask me what it means to "estimate", and what strategies I can use to make reasonable estimates (hint: count a small group, and make a reasonable guess as to how many more groups there are).   We then practiced counting in an efficient way with my group to check my estimation.  Help me practice my estimation and check skills whenever I can (estimate toys, candy, cereal, whatever is handy)!

Thanks for reading!

Thursday Dec. 3

Hello Families!

We really enjoyed seeing everyone's crazy sweaters and appreciated some really creative home made ones.  Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow.

In math we have continued practicing skip counting, and played a game to practice identifying the pattern in the hundreds chart.  It also gave us a chance to practice representing numbers through tallies!  Help me practice counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s to 100!  If that's pretty easy for me, challenge me to skip count from a different number (i.e. count by 10s from 32), or backwards.

Thanks for reading, see you Monday!
