 Hello Families!

We had another busy and productive day!  We continued to work on our How To Be books and added  "About the Author" on the back cover.  We had Roots of Empathy with Ms. Martens and were able to have an Author's Chair to share our work from this week.

In inquiry, we have been very interested the the Mars rover, Perseverance.   We were able to hear the first sounds on Mars and see a panoramic view from Perseverance.  It has really helped us make connections to living and non living things and the environment on Earth.

Thanks for reading!

 Hello Friends and Family,

We had a great day celebrating kindness on Pink Shirt Day!

We read LOTS of stories that gave us some great ideas on ways to be kind to others.   Ask me which story I liked the best, and what it was about!

We did some instructional writing on How to Be Kind, and started working on a visual journal page where we could fill with ideas of ways to be kind.  Ask me what some of the ideas I had were!

Thanks for Reading!

 Hello Families!

Tomorrow is Pink Shirt Day! Pink Shirt Day was inspired by a small act of kindness in Nova Scotia.  We ask that everyone try and wear pink to encourage kindness and symbolize that you do not tolerate bullying.

“David Shepherd, Travis Price and their teenage friends organized a high-school protest to wear pink in sympathy with a Grade 9 boy who was being bullied [for wearing a pink shirt]…[They] took a stand against bullying when they protested against the harassment of a new Grade 9 student by distributing pink T-shirts to all the boys in their school. ‘I learned that two people can come up with an idea, run with it, and it can do wonders,’ says Mr. Price, 17, who organized the pink protest. ‘Finally, someone stood up for a weaker kid.’ So Mr. Shepherd and some other headed off to a discount store and bought 50 pink tank tops. They sent out message to schoolmates that night, and the next morning they hauled the shirts to school in a plastic bag. As they stood in the foyer handing out the shirts, the bullied boy walked in. His face spoke volumes. ‘It looked like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders,’ Mr. Price recalled. The bullies were never heard from again.” — GLOBE & MAIL

We look forward to see all the pink tomorrow!

 Hello Friends and Family,

Today we learned about the word "consensus" and what it means.  Ask me if I remember what it means, and what new strategy we learned to build consensus (hint: 5 fingers!).  It's an important skill to have when we are interacting and playing with others.  We all were able to give lots of examples of times we've had to build consensus with our friends.

In math we re-visited our "friendly facts" or addition facts that add up to 10.  We learned that this is a great mental math strategy when we are trying to add lots of numbers together and we can apply this strategy to very big numbers too!  We will be working on this strategy and learning to apply it in different ways.  For practice, we played "Making 10 Connect 4".
