Hello Families and Friends!

A friendly reminder that there is a PD Day tomorrow and that means no school.

We were very fortunate today to have had a virtual author's visit with Marty Chan.  We learned a lot about the writing process!  Ask me about the stories he told and what we need to add to make our writing interesting.  He also performed some magic tricks!

To help us with our upcoming Chinese New Year celebration we are hoping that students could bring in empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls.  Thank you in advance!

 Get outside and be active!

Wednesday, February 3 is this year’s Winter Walk Day.  The goal is to get more Albertans physically active outdoors during the winter.  Just because it is cold outside, it does not mean we can’t be active outdoors.  Most of us already doing this; February 3 is a great time to celebrate it.  It may be as simple as walking to and from school, playing in the snow, taking a walk after dinner, going bird watching, or any of the countless activities we are fortunate to be able to do during the winter.

Wednesday Jan 27

 Hello Friends and Family,

Chinese/Lunar New Year is two weeks away so we kicked off our celebrations with a story about the Chinese Zodiac.  Ask me if I remember what animal is the symbol for the year I was born.   This year will be the year of the ox!

We got to enjoy an assembly today, and we recognized lots of our friends in it from our class and also all over the school!  It was about mindfulness and peace within ourselves.  Ask me to sing you the song we sang in the assembly.

In math we learned a new math game where we needed to add base 10 blocks together but also needed to remember what we know about odd and even numbers.  Ask me about the trick for knowing if a double or triple digit number is odd or even (hint: it has to do with the number in the ones place)!

Thanks for reading!

 Hello Families!

We hope that you have been keeping warm in this frigid weather.  Today we completed our plans for our "How To Be" writing and then shared our work with each other.  During our sharing time we welcomed  feedback for our plan and tips on how to add details to our work.  We will begin writing our rough draft tomorrow.

In math, we were challenged with a word problem that involved using base ten blocks.  Ask me about the problem and how I solved it.

Monday Jan. 25

Hello Families!

We read How To Be by Lisa Brown and to develop our instructional writing we are working on our own "How To Be" books.  We started today by picking an animal and creating a plan for our writing.

In math, we have been continuing to work with place value and base ten blocks.  Ask me about how the number of blocks can be different than their value.

 Hello Friends and Family,

We had our baby visits today!!  Ask me what's new with Baby Thompson and Nixon.

We have loved seeing all your "Stretch Zone" videos - there's still time so don't worry if you still want to send something in!

Thanks for Reading!

Tuesday January 19

Hello Families!

We have been learning about our comfort, stretch and panic zones and practicing stretching ourselves by trying new things.  Parents, we are hoping that your child could record themselves trying something new at home (with parents permission) that would move them into the stretch zone (eg. trying a new food, reading a more challenging book, skate without holding someones hand, etc.).  Then, if they want, they can upload it onto Iris or email the recording to one of the teachers.  Then we can all watch the video and celebrate their accomplishments as a community.  This is optional.

See below pictures from math as we continued our work with base ten blocks and place value.  Ask me about the game Race to 100 with base ten block.  How many ones do I need to make a ten?
