Sept. 30, 2020

 Hello Friends and Family,

We have had a busy couple days, continuing our learning about Orange Shirt Day, and about how we can be a positive part of Truth and Reconciliation.  We read a couple more books about it today - ask me which I liked the best and why:

We did lots of writing about Orange Shirt Day as well.  We wrote about why we wear orange on Orange Shirt Day.  Ask me what I wrote about!  We also added some new words to our word wall:  because, day, orange, school

We learned to draw the province of Alberta, and we mapped out where Treaty 7 land is.  We learned that there were two residential schools within the city of Calgary.  See if I remember some of the names of the First Peoples who lived where we are living now!  To help me remember, we have been learning the Land Acknowledgement of the Calgary Public Library:

We wrote our names on pieces of Orange Ribbon as a promise that we would always remember the children who had to go to Residential Schools and to remember that Every Child Matters:

For the past two days in math we have been working on representing numbers using numerals, words, and dice.  Help me learn to read and spell all the number words to Twenty:

Don't forget our Terry Fox Run is on Friday, Oct. 2!

Tuesday, Sept. 29

Hello Families!

Tomorrow is Orange Shirt Day! Please try to wear a orange shirt (if you have one).  This is a day when we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada.  We have been discussing and learning about the history of the land and these schools.  Today, we read the story "When We Were Alone" by David A. Robertson.  Ask me about the story.  In math, we are learning how to represent numbers in different ways.  Ask me about the ways we represented numbers today (Hint: One way was numerically).

Terry Fox Run on Friday! Please see below for some new details.

Thursday, Sept. 24

 Hello Families!

We are so looking forward to seeing you (virtually) this afternoon!  We are continuing to learn and understand the different sounds that letters make and working on our printing.  Ask me the letters that we printed today and the steps for making those letters.   Extra practice at home is always encouraged.  In math,  we started "Math About Me" as this helps us learn to see math EVERYwhere!

Wednesday Sept. 23

 Hello Friends and Family,

Today we started learning about printing, and letter sounds.  We will be working on this for the next few weeks, and learning about how to form lowercase letters correctly.  If I'm working on writing at home, help me to practice lowercase letters as much as I can!

We read the story Erik the Viking Sheep today.  It was a very funny story - ask me about it!

We continued talking about Autumn today and documenting all the things we saw on our walk in our visual journal.  Ask me about my Summer/Autumn page, and all the Autumnal details I added to it.

Tuesday, Sept. 22

 Hello Family and Friends!

Did you know that today is the Autumnal Equinox?  Ask me about that that means.  We also learned about the Earth's rotation and revolution around the sun. We had some volunteers pretend they were the Earth and demonstrated how the Earth moves around the sun.  This helped us to better understand the change in seasons.

We read the story "Peace Is" by Todd Parr and in writing are working on writing the beginning, middle and ending sounds in words.
