 Hello Families!

We hope that you had a relaxing weekend!  A friendly reminder that the virtual book fair starts today! Please see yesterday's blog post for more information. 

As per the message sent with information about conferences, we are working hard on uploading our work onto Iris prior to interviews.  If your child has changed their password, please make sure they know their new password.  They will not be able to add any of their work to Iris if they do not know their password.  You can send their password to school with them tomorrow or let their teacher know.  This is only for students have changed their original password.  

Today, we continued to build our "read to self" stamina and learned the sound of "sh."  Ask me about the noisy big air sound (hint: it sounds like the letters zh together).  We also practiced printing "sh"together.  

In math, we practiced subitizing, and the counting on addition strategy to play Addition Connect 4.

 Hello Families!

We hope that you all had a restful and reflective Remembrance Day.   We are so happy to have everyone back!  

We have been discussing the concepts of heroes and leaders.  Today, we read Rosa by Nikki Giovanni and reflected on other "heroes" we have learned about.  Ask me about what I think make the qualities of a leader and hero.  Please have a look at the pictures below of us building our stamina in Read to Self and ask me about the new Super Star Vowel we learned today!

Continuing with shapes in math, we began a scavenger hunt identifying difference shapes in the classroom. Ask me what happened in the story Buffalo Before Breakfast.

Tuesday Nov. 10

 Hello Families! 

We started the day by reading Proud as a Peacock, Brave as a Lion and discussed why we honour Remembrance Day. We also each received our own Poppy sticker.  At around 11am, we watched the beautiful Remembrance Day assembly that we had a part in making.  We were so excited to see ourselves lay the Wreaths at the Peace Poles.  It was also wonderful to see all the hard work of the other classrooms and how they exemplified a peaceful community through their artwork, poems, movement pieces and songs.  If you would also like to see the assembly please find the links on Mrs. Coulson's Music Blog.

We then wrote about why and who we are remembering on Remembrance Day.  Please see some pictures below of our author's chair.

Hello Families!

We hope that you all had a safe and relaxing weekend! 

It was a very busy and successful Monday!  Ask me about the new letter sounds we learned today. We started working on shapes in math. Ask me about what sides and vertices mean.  I can also explain the difference between a line and a shape.  At the end of the day we were able to listen to Buffalo Before BreakfasB with Wild Rose! Friday Nov. 6

Hello Families!

We started off today by reading A Poppy is to Remember by Heather Patterson and discussing Remembrance Day. Ask me why we wear Poppies and the significance of November 11. 

After we took a walk around the school and looked at the art from the other classrooms, we wrote about what we really liked.  Below are some pictures from our Author's chair, where we shared our work and offered feedback.

Thursday Nov. 5

Hello families!

Today we continued to practice our "Read to Self" and had the opportunity to "book shop." Ask me about the books that I chose.  I can also tell you about the letter sounds we learned today.  We are started to make equations by using our understanding of balance and equality.  We started listened to the first chapter of Buffalo Before Breakfast and practiced the Picturing Penguin reading strategy.  Ask me what this strategy is. 

Important Information

Jacket Racket 2020

We need your help!  We are currently collecting winter wear for Jacket Racket as we have for the past 4 years.  Due to Covid restrictions, we ask that you drop off new or gently used items in the collection bins outside the front door of the school.  Jacket Racket will accept coats, hats, mittens/gloves, boots, etc. in children's and adult sizes.  Please ensure the items are cleaned and in good condition.
