Monday May 31st

Our Day:

- Today we  began writing about our big feelings. We brainstormed different big feelings that we've experienced. Students began to plan what they would like to write about using pictures and labels.

- In math, the grade one's have been practicing translating pictures into addition problems. The grade two's were introduced to a new strategy to answer 2-digit regrouping problems. 

- This afternoon, we took some time to sketch a flower and labelled the different parts. We will continue this art on Thursday when we add water colour!

 

Friday, May 28th

 Hello Families!

We have had such a fun and busy week back to in-person learning.  Yesterday, we planted our own sunflower seeds and learning about how we can help them grow.  Today, we created sunflower art using white glue and oil pastels.  Ask me about the technique of blending colours using pastels.  

Today, we wrote using ideas from our brain pockets and were able to share some really well thoughtful writing through our author's chair.

Reminders:

- Now that we have returned back to school, please return all school journals that were used during online learning!

Our Day:

In writing, we continued working on event stories, focusing on using interesting transition words, or "move along" words to help keep our reader engaged. Ask your child what 'move along' words they used in their writing today!

In math today, students were introduced to a new 2-digit addition strategy called "stacking", which is a strategy used to regroup. 

While Ms. Low's class went to music, Mrs. Day's class played a community building activity called "Please don't touch me!". Ask your child what their challenge was for the community building!

 

Tuesday, May 25

Hello Families!

We are so happy to be back in the school! Thank you again for your support throughout our online learning.  We had a busy day getting back into the regular routines and being with our friends.  

In writing, we continued our work with writing event stories.  We made a plan today with events from our three weeks at home.  Tomorrow we are going to pick one event to write in detail.  Please see the pictures below of us playing a new math game.  It helped us practice our addition and subtraction facts.  

We would also like to celebrate our friend Raidin and his peaceful action of selling old toys and donating his earnings to the Children's Hospital.  He was able to raise $169.25!
